Where shutters genuinely win
These are real advantages and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

- They can protect every opening on a budget that would only glaze part of one.
- They can be added to a house without replacing anything that currently works.
- They do not change the appearance of the building permanently.
Where glass wins
Almost all of it comes down to one thing: nobody has to do anything.
- Protection does not depend on anyone being at the property.
- Nothing has to be stored, carried, lifted or fitted.
- It works when a storm turns quickly and there is no time to prepare.
- There is no annual argument about who is closing up the house.
How to actually choose
Answer one question first: will somebody reliably be at this house between June and November?
If yes, and the budget is tight, shutters across every opening is likely the better buy. If no, the cost comparison is misleading, because you are comparing protection with protection-that-requires-a-person, and on an empty house those are not the same product.
