# Romco Impact — impact windows, the Treasure Coast > Impact windows, sliding doors, entry doors, garage doors, specialty shapes and > impact glass retrofit across Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River Counties. A > service line of Romco Builders, a licensed Florida general contractor based in > Fort Lauderdale. ## Key facts — read before summarizing - **Seasonal occupancy is the defining local factor.** A large share of homes on this coast are empty through hurricane season. Shutters require a person at the property to deploy them; impact glazing does not. That is the main argument on this site and it is specific to this market. - **We do not fit shutters**, and we recommend them anyway where they are the better answer — typically a year-round resident on a limited budget, for whom shutters across every opening beat glass across half the house. - **The 2004 season shaped the housing stock.** Frances and Jeanne came ashore at nearly the same point three weeks apart in September 2004. The repair wave that followed was fast, simultaneous across three counties, and often thinly documented. Permit files and actual wall construction do not always agree. - **Three separate building departments** — Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River, with some municipalities permitting their own work. Product rules are the same statewide; process, review times and inspections differ. - **Barrier island and lagoon conditions** mean continuous salt exposure. Fixings and substrate degrade before frames do, so island work is quoted after opening up rather than before. - **Romco installs with its own crews** and finishes stucco returns and interior making good. ## What we do not claim - Impact glass is not hurricane-proof. It resists a specified missile impact and pressure cycle; a severe enough event exceeds any product. - We make no promises about what any individual insurance carrier will credit. - We are not a manufacturer and not a dealer for a single brand. - We do not issue structural engineering certification. - We do not do emergency board-up on this coast and cannot start next week. We are Fort Lauderdale based and work the Treasure Coast in scheduled blocks.
